She Pushes On
Completed in January of 1998, "She Pushes on" was about a close friend that was going through a difficult time with her boyfriend back in the 90s. He was a manipulative type of person with most conversations consisting of half truths or outright lies. Her family and I did what we could to support her emotionally but the couple ended up breaking up, which I think was for the best. Now she is happily married with two great kids. This song is what I saw and felt for her as I look in from the outside during this time period.
This song is in queue to be re-recorded
Verse 1
Oh no, here he goes again
Suspending her heart to keep her hopeful
He’s never there when she needs him
It’s so hard to believe him
It’s going down hill from here
Verse 2
I’m on the outside looking in
Her emotions are getting frightful
She reaching her max limitations
From a lack of affection
Reaching out to find herself
Chorus
But she pushes on, struggling to make it work
Holding in, going through the motions
Still she pushes on, dragged through the dirt
Deceived heart, and fading emotions
Verse 3
How did it start, when does it end?
Drying her eyes, on a my shoulder
Third degree burned, her face in her hands again
it’s going to take more than a hug to save her this time
Bridge
I don’t know what drove her
She knows it’s going on too long
I hate to see her, when he says, “it’s over”
He must have outgrown her
She can see were she went wrong
I hesitate to call-she says “he’s over”
To Chorus
Verse 4
Her fragile tempered mind
The one you see right through
That look, before breakdown
That’s a bad sign
Almost too far gone
Much too far to walk away
She’ll keep pushing on
