Paperback

Written in 1996, the song Paperback  was inspired by my observations of how people tend to follow others to "fit in" and are totally unaware that they are just blindly following others around them.   Like it's part of a social trend of "the way  to be".   If they just took the time to self-reflect and believe in themselves they might find the talents, skills and/or capabilities they see in whom they are trying to emulate.  I guess what I was trying to say  was "be honest with yourself, about who you are and use your mind to become who you were meant to be."   I remember seeing many young people (my age at that time)  hiding behind a façade.  Faking an image that really wasn't them.   Keep in mind this was written before "Social Media" platforms, but just when the Internet was starting to become popular.  I think this song has more meaning and impact now than it did back then.

This song is in queue to be re-recorded

Verse 1

Picture the scene

A castle, green hillside

By a river, back in 1653

5 Knights in shining armor

A white chariot escorts a peasant to Princess Donavee

The drawbridge is lowered- to the dungeon

Towns people gather in the courtyard to see what they can see

Chatter shattered silence as the

Bell tower screams it’s last of chime number three

Chorus 1

From a paperback book

The conception is heaven

Like this paperback world

Not much difference, from fiction

Verse 2

A fictitious vaccine

Used to shadow, and shelter

Disguised authentic esteem

Aware not of their options

Leash led actions, an event of a trend reality

Chorus 2

Another paperback life

Self deception is hidden

Like this paperback world

Not much difference from fiction

Bridge

Keep the faith don’t believe in “different”, like everybody else

Make your move based on you

And not just some other guy

To play a roll is deceiving

Take a chance - be yourself

It’s your break to deny then walk right on by

Verse 3

Remember the scene?

That castle on the hillside- Remember?

When you open your eyes you’ll see

An imaginary vision

A transparent layer

That reveals potential to be

Chorus 3

Like a paperback book

The conception is fiction

Unlike this paperback world

Make the difference, your decision
